Lord Sri Krishna is the possessor of unlimited energies (purna-shaktiman). His eternal consort, Srimati Radharani, is the personification of His spiritual energy called the hladini-shakti, His pleasure potency. There is no difference between Radha and Krishna. The sun and the sunshine exist together as one, as do a lamp and its light. They are inseparable. Similarly Krishna and Radha, His energy, are one, but to perform loving pastimes They manifest in two forms. Ekatmanav api bhuvi pura deha-bhedam gatau tau. (Chaitanya-charitamrita, Adi 1.5). Srila Krishnadasa Kaviraja Goswami writes (Adi 4.56),
radha-krishna eka atma, dui deha dhari’
anyonye vilase rasa asvadana kari’
“Radha and Krishna are one and the same, but They have assumed two bodies. Thus They enjoy each other, tasting the mellows of love.”
Krishnadasa Kaviraja Goswami also writes that Srimati Radharani is the repository of all good qualities and the crest jewel among Lord Krishna’s consorts (sarva-guna-khani krishna-kanta-shiromani); Her mind, senses, and body are steeped in love for Krishna (krishna-prema-bhavita); She is Krishna’s own energy and helps Him in His pastimes; and She is Krishna’s topmost devotee and worshiper.
Srimati Radharani’s Krishna Consciousness
Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita (Madhya 23.68) describes Sri Radha’s glory:
“The transcendental goddess Srimati Radharani is the direct counterpart of Lord Sri Krishna. She is the central figure for all the goddesses of fortune. She possesses all the attraction to attract the all-attractive Personality of Godhead. She is the primeval internal potency of the Lord.”
Srimati Radharani is krishna-mayi, which means Her complete existence is filled with Krishna. Her body, mind, words, intelligence, and everything else are dedicated to Krishna’s service and pleasure. She is the perfect example and epitome of Krishna consciousness.
Srimati Radharani decorates Herself not to look beautiful for Her own sake but only to please Krishna’s eyes. She considers that the purpose of Her eyes, and everyone’s eyes, is just to see the divine form of Krishna (akshanvatam phalam idam na param vidamah, Bhagavatam 10.21.7).
In the Padma Purana, Lord Shiva tells Parvati that Radharani hadn’t seen anything in this world before She saw Krishna. She was a blind infant in the palace of King Vrishabhanu and Queen Kirtida. One day, mother Yashoda, along with her baby, Krishna, went to visit Kirtida. When Yashoda saw Kirtida’s beautiful daughter, she placed Krishna on the floor and picked up Radharani, cradling the child in her lap. Seeing this, Krishna became upset and started to cry. Yashoda bent down and picked Him up, placing Him on her lap. When Radha and Krishna came close to each other in Mother Yashoda’s lap, Krishna reached out and touched Radharani. At His touch, Radharani realized the presence of Her beloved Krishna and opened Her eyes to take His darshana – Her first sight on this earth planet.
